Access Kenya Records 99% Uptake on its Fibre Optic Network

Access Kenya Group Managing Director Jonathan Somen.

AccessKenya Group has recorded 99.97 per cent network connectivity in its fibre optic network in the first six months of this year, demonstrating network reliability as a key benefit of their new network structure.

Group Managing Director Jonathan Somen says with the rapid growth of the AcessKenya network, the new system ensures that any new building connected to the system would not affect the connectivity of existing customers, ensuring efficiency and reliability.

By building the network using ring topology, the system is built in the form of multiple rings which ensures that if one part of the network fails, traffic is rerouted to the opposite side of the ring immediately thus eliminating network disruptions for clients. Once the broken part is repaired, normally within a few hours depending on the severity and location of the cut, the normal operating cycle is automatically restored.

“This is another significant advantage of our network that we believe puts our network far ahead of all the others in the market today. The reliability of service will further cement our position as the leading provider of data services and IT services in Kenya,” says Somen.

AccessKenya has already covered Nairobi with its fibre network and will soon be commencing construction of a fibre network in Mombasa. The Mombasa network will also be built following the same guidelines as the Nairobi network. The new fibre network will give the Group the ability to offer reliable and significantly higher speeds to its 6800 customers across fibre from its 5000 megabits of international fibre from TEAMS and Seacom.
